A Brief History of K*S

Here are a few historical accounts from some of K*S's senior members.

Your K*S Senate
by Roger Gray

I'd like to give everyone a bit of background on how the senate was formed, why it was formed and what its goals are.

Initially there was just Roger Gray and Merk Renso, I had written pages of guidelines and had the foundation of the guild set and was ready for members. I had added in the future creation of a group of advisors that would help me make changes to these guidelines and rules, every leader needs plenty of advisors to see things from different points of view. My goal in this guild was to create a friendly community of people, my projection was a guild of about 300. Although there was some controversy on how big we wanted the guild to be, some wanted the guild small, but I wrote the guidelines to support a mass of members.

When the guild began to grow I chose who the advisors would be, a small group of 2-3 other people, we chose the guild colors and began editing the rules to better help the new members. The members now and again would come with a problem that we would figure out and make a change for the better. At this time there was very little prestige in being a "senate" member, it was a lot of work to show for the meetings so those who had the time to devote to the guild normally were chosen to help me hash things out, I was very happy to have such members in the early times of the guild. We were a "newbie" guild and recruited basically only newer players to UO, so a few that had some time and experience advised me on what changes needed to take place.

The guild began to grow and there was a MAJOR need for a new ranking system, having only three divisions and only three ranks per division(example; Knight Lord, High Knight, Knight) made things a bit "cramped" so the senate and myself made the new system which is very efficient, it has well defined titles and uses UO's own basis of power rankings. Major swings in recruiting and new divisions have been designed to solve problems in the guild. It was about this time I began to hold elections for senate members rather than hand pick them. In fact all who are current senate members except for Merk, and Mercury have all been elected by a voting of the guild.

So today the goal is still the same, we have expanded the senate to have 8 seats, including Guildmaster, to help evaluate promotions better and to increase senate participation. The meetings are conducted like the Tuesday guild meetings they sit and listen to the topics I have and chat about them, then on Tuesday I chat about them to the guild to let everyone know what is going on.

Your senate members are devoted to making this guild a better place. They show up for an extra meeting every other week to help make suggestions or give their opinion on current topics. These members are chosen by you and represent you in making the guild a better place. That's it. The senate was created and formed to help increase your UO experience.

A group of devoted members, with some time on their hands, is common of all successful guilds in UO, our members are voted in, they represent you.

I thank you for reading this, *smile*
