New Member Handbook

Welcome to the Knights of Superior! This book should help you begin to find your way around the guild and become familiar with its people and its function. Please read through this and use it as your reference guide. Keep it safely in your bank box. Note: to go from Initiate to Page status you need 2 weeks as an Initiate.

--Contact Info--
Note: All contact numbers are for ICQ. Please download ICQ, it is the standard method of communication for Britannia.
Guild Master: Luscan 11862067

The guild has a website with a lot of information, more than is enclosed within these pages. It may be found at www.knightsofsuperior.com. K*S also has a guild message board, and posting is encouraged. A link can be found at the K*S website, titled Forums.

Don't hesitate to contact the Senate! They can help with most anything.

--Fame & Karma--
It is strongly encouraged that guild members retain a positive fame and karma status. It is acceptable to dip below positive if it is temporary. There are cases when one needs to summon daemons for skill gains, or poison for skill gains, but long periods of negative karma will not be tolerated. You also will not gain rank with negative karma.

Mentor's Handbook

A mentor in K*S is usually the second person a new member meets after being recruited. Under the new standards, your mentoring period will be for 2 weeks. This way we can be sure you've been with them for sufficient time. This is to instill the group feelings. While other mentors and Senate members are also going to try and spend some time with them. It's no longer a walk up and "Hi. Want to join?", and we accept them into the guild. They need to show that they want to be a part of it. If they can do the time needed and still keep a good attitude, then they'll probably do OK.

Duties

A mentor has several different duties, such as:
  1. Befriend Phase - This phase is designed for the initiate and mentor to get to know one another.

  2. Give Initate your, the mentors, ICQ number. Another thing to do is to get the Initate's ICQ number. If they are new, tell them how to down load ICQ, and other steps that they will need.

  3. After the member has an ICQ number, please secure the number, and make sure that they will use it. If the member did not have ICQ at the time that they were interviewed please ICQ Jopam (59066821), and let her know so the change can be made upon the site.

  4. Inform your mentee about the forums, how to register, the meeting etiquette, as well as how to connect to the UOAM server. Please also make sure that your mentee reads the books upon the Guild Masters' desk.

  5. The mentee should have a rune to the guild house. Also be free to go on a rescue, talk or answer questions that the mentee might have. Announce new Initate to guild at 1st meeting Initiate attends.

Meeting Etiquette

By Stephen

When attending a K*S meeting, normally scheduled on Tuesday nights at 9:30 eastern at the K*S guildhouse, there are some simple rules to follow. The guildmaster/speaker has the floor (right to speak). If you have a comment or question you may emote *hand*. This puts you first in line when choosing who will comment next. At meetings it is a good idea to have you "journal" open so you can read and discern who made comments easier. Please do not make noises or work skills while the meeting is being conducted. Silent "partied" chat is allowed. Proper dress (olive cape) is encouraged at the guild meeting although it is not enforced. The meetings last about 30min-60 mins depending on what is being discussed. Please don't forget that these meetings are optional. If you don't want to abide by these guidelines please choose not to come. Other than that come and enjoy some discussion about how we are doing as a guild and discuss the current guild issues.

K*S Information

By Stephen

K*S is a "good" aligned guild and will only tolerate negative karma members in certain situations:
1-You are a poisoner
2-You have just joined and need to become good aligned
3-If your main is a necromancer, you will not be given a title.
In all of these situations you must not choose the "show title" option on the guildstone until you are positive karma.

There is a full set of organizational rules and regulations at
www.knightsofsuperior.com.

Please also register at the "forums" and introduce yourself.

Combat Expectations

By Stephen

When hunting with other members it is very important to view the other party members' life bars. When the life bars are getting low it is expected for all members to try to heal other party members. Notice that many members will heal you and not themselves because it takes longer to heal yourself. This tactic is called "cross healing" and is important in large groups.

Another combat healing issue is trying not to succumb to your urge to run when your life bar is low. Running prevents other party members from healing you. Many times a runner would have lived if he/she would have trusted their party members to heal them in time.

When you die in battle please try to stay by your corpse and hit "tab" so you can always be seen for others to heal you.

Obviously if the whole party, or most of it, is dead it is more than okay to run for help either dead or alive.

We will have plenty of hunts scheduled and we hope you can make some of them.

Guildhouse Rules

By Luscan

1) No sparring inside GH.
2) No dead bodies outside near GH.
3) When sparring, heal your partner
4) Melee sparring: Use small weapons, ie:dagger, knife, & wand. You will still gain skill, but not as much damage.
4) Mage sparring. Mutual consent. Accidents WILL happen, but please do your best to avoid them.
6) Duels. Personally, I don't care for dueling to the death, but it happens anyway. Because of this, I decided to add this last rule. If both partners agree, you may duel, but it must be done in the arena, and
1v1 rules will apply. There must also be a witness, who will verify that it's by mutual consent, and that all the rules are followed. You can waive the 5 minute time limit if you wish, but all other rules stand.

Reasons behind these rules:
K*S is not a PvP Guild, even though we hold a number of PvP tourneys. Dead guild members laying around in front of the GH tells all of LS Shard that we are a PvP Guild, and prospective members who see these might be wondering if their body will be found there after they join.
"Sparring" is done to gain skill, not to try to kill each other. That's why you use small weapons, and heal your opponent. Mutual consent means that both are willing. Talking, wheeling, and needling someone into being your opponent to fight a duel is NOT Mutual consent. If you challenge someone to a duel, or someone challenges you, and the answer is no, that's it. There is no duel.

I hope you can all agree to these rules, because I feel it's better for all concerned.

Thank you,
Luscan, GM, K*S

House Buying/Trading

Some do's and don'ts

bB Luscan, Shadow, and Iola Tome; Updated by JOPAM and Luscan

Just a few hints on Do's and Don'ts when buying/trading a house:
  • If the owner of the house has to ride to location because he doesn't have a rune, that's Flag #1.
  • When you get to the location, ask the owner to friend you to the house so you can look at the sign. If they refuse that's Flag #2.
  • If the owner has other people there, that's a Big Red Flag!!!
  • If the house owner is selling a house way too cheap, and the excuse is "I'm quitting UO" ask yourself this: Why is he selling a house for UO gold when he's not playing anymore? Especially when they can be sold on E-Bay for RL money!
  • If you're selling the house, don't accept money in a bag. Make them drop all the checks on the trade window, arranged so you can count them and check value. If you're buying the house, keep all your checks in main pack. Don't put in a bag or something. If it's a rip and you get killed, all your checks are safe.
  • When you finally figure it's on the "Up & Up", have the owner initiate the transfer. When the Trade window comes up, you'll see what looks like a blank scroll. Superimposed above it is text saying what the house type is along with the coordinates for it. If you don't see the text, which actually can extend up above the border of the of the Trade Window, you're about to get ripped off. See screenshot below of a legit house transfer window. Notice what the text says. Also, verify the coordinates by standing beneath the sign and using either a sextant or UOAM. Single-click the 'scroll' to make sure it isn't a "blank scroll", especially if the other person cancels the trade window "accidentally".

  • If you're trading 1 house for another, your best bet is to contact www.uotrader.com. They will meet you, and discuss how the trade will be accomplished. There is a fee involved, payable in UO Gold, but this is well worth the cost when you know no one will be ripped off.
  • If the person starts to move around with trade window open, they are trying to scam.
  • Be careful if you are selling a house worth a lot of large number of checks involved, adding too many can make the trade window crash which results in them having their check AND your house. Scammers love this one.
  • If they have a bunch of secures inside then ask why. If they haven't moved their stuff out, maybe they don't plan on going anywhere.
  • NEVER give in on any of the rules, no matter what pathetic story they try to give you. Here's one someone tried on me, I wanted to use a broker and they didn't first he told me he SWORE on his childrens' lives that he wasn't scamming me. I refused to do it without a broker, then he told the broker I had arranged that he was going to sue him for interfering with his deal. Needless to say I never heard from the scammer again.
  • Check out the scammer list on uo.tradespot.net if you're buyer/seller's icq is on the list, pretty good chance you're going to get ripped off.
